BANGOR–The BHS Boys’ Varsity Soccer team shut out Mt. Blue for a 5-0 win.

Gabe Berenyi (SR) scored two goals, Beckett Parkin (SR) scored on a penalty kick, and Eli Herzog (SR) and Zach Shaw (SO) had one goal each.

The team has been a strong force this year, becoming one of the top eight teams advancing to playoffs.

The Bangor boys’ soccer team is led by 11 seniors, the highest number of seniors on any fall sports team this year. The seniors are Sam Ahola, Gabe Berenyi, Eli Herzog, Jacob Osmer, Beckett Parkin, Henry Poulin, Logan Rennebu, Sam Rutledge, Wyatt Stevens, Xander Tlili, and Will Xu.

Seniors Logan Rennebu and Gabe Berenyi recalled their experiences with Bangor soccer.

“We’re all really nice to each other,” commented Rennebu. “There’s been a few teams in the past where one guy doesn’t like one guy and then it causes a big problem, but we all have each other’s backs.”

“[Bangor soccer] definitely helped me improve my skills just because of the day-to-day training and being close to players that are also very skilled,” added Berenyi. “Something I’ve learned over these past few years is how to step into a role that I’m not super comfortable with and adapt… and do the best I can in that position.”

Varsity head coach Don Erb said about his team, “We have a lot of experience. We have good size, we have good skill, so we’re excited. I think this is a year that we could make a good run through the playoffs.”

Senior captains Beckett Parkin and Jacob Osmer shared Coach Erb’s enthusiasm.

“During playoffs, the atmosphere gets raised, and intensity is raised. Every little thing matters, so we’re just trying to work as a team to eliminate any mistakes,” said Parkin.

Osmer added, “I’m pretty confident that we’re going to do well. I’m not sure who we’re playing yet, but I think we can beat any team.”
