BANGOR—Winter sports at BHS, which include Basketball, Cheerleading, Ice Hockey, Winter Track, and Swim & Dive, will begin tryouts in mid-November, with the winter sports season lasting until the regular season ends in February.

Tryouts for winter sports will have cuts, except for Winter Track and Swim, said Athletic Director Mr. Vanidestine. Swim practices will be held at Husson, Ice Hockey practices will be at Sawyer Arena, and Cheer and Basketball practice will be here, at the high school gym.

Masks, a pandemic staple, will be required in locker rooms, benches, and, sometimes, during play, the athletic director pointed out. This year will also look different from years past. “We will have spectators in the stands, and they will be in masks,” said Mr. Vanidestine.

“Really appreciative to student athletes who have been good at conforming to the use of masks, can’t thank them enough for being positive,” according to Mr. Vanidestine.

There will be in-person meets this year instead of via Zoom. “Better this year than last,” he added, acknowledging that last year’s conditions for athletes and spectators, alike, were not ideal.

This should be a good sports season for students at BHS. Good luck!
