Unlike Tom Brady, Mr. Ames says it’s for real this time.

BANGOR–After a very long, successful teaching career, Mr. Ames is 100% certain that he will be officially, undoubtedly retiring after the 2021-2022 season, um, school year.

In a recent tweet, Mr. Ames wrote, “I believe that the act of teaching is an “all-in” proposition – if a 100% competitive commitment isn’t there you won’t succeed, and success is what I love so much about our school…and I have tried my very best these past 93 years. This is not easy for me to write, but here it goes: ‘I am not going to make that competitive commitment anymore.’”

“We are very sad that his retirement decision is final, and that there is absolutely no chance of him returning next year.””

— Geoffrey Wingard, History Department Chair

Mr. Ames’ sudden announcement shocked the BHS community, many of whom consider him to be the GOAT teacher.

“I can’t believe that after so many years, Mr. Ames is finally retiring and never returning to teaching…,” says Mr. Wingard, head of the history department. “We are very sad that his retirement decision is final, and that there is absolutely no chance of him returning next year.”
