BANGOR–Bangor High’s Girls’ Varsity Soccer team is officially headed to the playoffs!

On their senior night (10/19), the team beat Hampden Academy 7-1. Emmie Streams (’23) got a hat trick, Teagan Atherley (’25) scored two goals, and Lily Chandler (’24) and Amelia Quinn (’24) scored one goal each.

This year, the Bangor girls’ soccer team has eight seniors: Anna Connors, Samantha Erb, Taylor King, Emma McNeil, Abbie Quinn, Ashley Schultz, Emmie Streams, and Maddie Tritt.

Quinn spoke about the program, saying, “It’s given me great leadership responsibilities and it’s shaped me to be the athlete I am today.”

Schultz has also been a leader this year.

“Someone had to step up and it kind of took half the season to get there, but I was glad to take the role,” she said. “I love being a leader and I have a great team to lead, so it was pretty easy.”

Entering playoffs, head coach Andrew Varisco is optimistic about the team’s post-season.

“Once we get to playoffs they’ll be physically and mentally prepared to play,” he said. “Work rate, attitudes, and effort are really good on the team and it’s just a phenomenally talented group.”

Streams is looking forward to the playoffs as well.

“We are hoping to get a state championship because we haven’t gotten one in a while,” she said, “and it’s been a bit of a challenge so far at the beginning of the year. But as we’re going on, we’re finding ourselves and it’s making it a lot better.”
