BANGOR–The Girls’ Varsity field hockey team won their senior game against Brewer and advanced to the playoffs. Senior Evelyn Humbert scored the only goal of Bangor’s 1-0 win.

The team’s seniors are Ani Noack, Gigi Sychterz, Kate Buko, Linzee Doyle, Ohara Dunlea, Evelyn Humbert, Nora Marasco, and Zina Van Amerongen. They’ve expressed appreciation for their team and coach.

“Bangor field hockey has really helped me grow because it’s taught me to depend on my teammates and to work hard…not for myself but for the entire team, ” said Busko. “It’s also taught me how to take good days and bad days because we’re always working toward something, and the good comes with the bad, but there are amazing days so it’s all worth it.”

Senior Nora Marasco expressed similar sentiments, saying the team “has improved my ability to work with people, especially this year. It’s been a positive influence on my life.”

Field hockey playoffs will be coming up in late October, and senior captain Ani Noack is optimistic.

“We’re really excited,” said Noack before they advanced. “It’s looking like we’re going to get a playoff spot right now, and when we do get into the playoffs, I think we have a good shot of getting ahead.”

Senior captain Gigi Sychterz called her team “a family to be a part of” and added, “We’re going to play our hardest [in the playoffs], but we’re not just playing to win. We’re also playing just so that we can keep playing with one another and make more memories.”

Jay Kemble stepped up to coach this year and has been met with positive reviews.

Sychterz said, “I didn’t know if we were going to have a senior season [due to the coaching issues]. Mr. Kemble has helped the whole situation. He has really just brought the joy back to the field hockey team and brought us closer together.”

Other players said, “this year has been the most positive experience” (Marasco) and “this is the best it’s ever been” (Busko).
